今までいろんな紙を試してきて、自分と相性が合うのを現在４種類に絞り込んだ。アルシュ、W&N、セザンヌ、ウォーターフォードだ。高級紙でもすべてが自分に合うわけではない。昨日、ファブリアーノに描いたが、これを使うと半分は失敗に終わる。面白い味は出るのだが、予想していたものと目の前に現れるもののズレが大きすぎる。紙によって描き方を変えなければいけないのはストレスになる。この紙を使い続けるのは僕にとっていいことなのか？　難しい判断だが、今日、僕はこの紙に描くのはもうやめようと思った。どんな分野でも、自分のスタイルに合うものを見つけること、合わないものにどこかで見切りをつけることは重要だ。

I’ve been trying several watercolor papers and narrowed down the ones that fit me to four: Arches, Winsor & Newton, Cézanne, and Waterford. Indeed, not all the expensive ones respond rightly to your way. I tried to paint on a Fabriano yesterday, but half of my works fail when I use this paper. It gives an interesting taste, but the gap between what I expect and what comes out on paper is too big. It’s stressful that you have to change your way of painting. Is using the paper good for me? It’s a difficult decision, but today, I gave up using them. In every category, it’s crucial to find the one that goes with your style and to give up what doesn’t.
